COLLABORATIVE PERFORMANCES

Meghna has had the fortune of collaborating with artists and musicians from across the world. She has worked as Director of Choreography in theatre performances Gasping, and Gossips of ‘47, staged for the Deccan Herald Theatre Festival. She has also been privileged to work with musicians, folk dancers, contemporary dancers, photographers, fine artists, and writers from across the globe. 

SAMAM

November 1st to 9th 2016

Samam was a confluence of Bharatnatyam and Odissi, exploring the uniqueness and contradictions between two ancient Indian dance forms. In collaboration with Bharatnatyam artiste Shruthi Gopal, Samam took stage in Rome and Florence in Italy with the support of the Indian High Commission, and Centro Zen L'Arco, Rome. The dancers performed for hundreds of people at the majestic Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico Luigi Pigorini (National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography) in Rome, at Centro Zen L’Arco in Rome, and at the Embassy of India in Florence. 

 

During this tour, Meghna and Shruti also conducted lecture-demonstrations and workshops in Odissi and Bharatnatyam.

MANIFEST

January 23rd to 25th 2014

A tribute to the great choreographer, director, and performer Christina Seargent, Manifest was a collaborative performance, directed and produced by Jayanthi Siva-Lecolley. The ensemble included artists from around the world and across disciplines, and attempted to explore the expression of poetry and emotion through different forms – classical music, theatre, ballet, opera, tap dance, Butoh, and classical dance. 

 

The show was staged at the Arts House in Singapore, featuring a series of short pieces drawing from different disciplines and styles of artistic expression.

FOOTSTEPS

January 17th 2013

In collaboration with the Dance Department of Adelphi University, Long Island, Footsteps was an evening of exploration, synergy, and celebration of two beautiful dance styles – Odissi and Ballet. Performed by Meghna Das, Anjali Raj Urs, and Sonalika Padhi in Odissi, under the direction of Meghna Das, and by the students of Adelphi under choreographer Catherine Denisot-Lawrence, Footsteps took stage in 2013 at Opus in Bangalore.

STORIES FROM MY LIVINGROOM

January 25th 2020

Stories from my Living Room, was a production exploring the possibilities of stories in the everyday. Consisting of fragments that describe universal human emotions of anxiety, loneliness, and the comfort we derive from companionship. Directed by Charu Mittal, and devised in collaboration with Meghna Das, Malcolm Carvalho, Samyuktha Manogaran, Tushar Das, and Charu Mittal, Stories from My Livingroom attempts to tell stories of home and love, of loneliness and heartbreak through poetry, dance and music. It was staged at The Courtyard in Bangalore, India.

JUGALBANDI

October 4th 2013

Jugalbandi was a collaborative performance between Meghna Das in the style of Odissi and senior Kathak artiste, Sri Sweekruth BP. The performance was staged under the Every Friday Cultural Programme, curated and produced by ICCR, Karnataka.

SIVAPADAM

December 2018

Sivapadam was a collaborative dance performance exploring a collection of Sivapadams in Telegu. Meghna Das and Mohiniattam artiste, choreographer, and teacher, Shruti KP were able to collaborate on two songs, combining the styles of Odissi and Mohiniattam. The show was staged in Vijaywada and Hyderabad to full houses.
